“I like that the philosophy is brought directly into the practice – using familiar  asanas frees our attention energy for the topic – also, relating the limbs to our outside daily life – this is probably the best part for me – yoga has become more than just healthy exercise!”

Review from a student in the “Foundations of Yoga” class

Since we got such great feedback from the first offering of “The Foundations of Yoga” class, we decided to offer it again on Thursday nights at 4:00pm. The class is recorded, so if you sign up for the 8-week series starting September 10th you also have access to the recordings to watch for the first time or review! Each class has a supportive hand-out as we do not take much time to talk, looking for the practical experience of the concepts within posture and not just theoretical.

I loved getting a deeper look into yoga and the eight limbs explained while we were doing our asanas. I felt it enriched the experience. I am a strong aural learner so hearing Jennie go into her explanations as we practiced each pose was powerful.

Review from a student in the “Foundations of Yoga” class

Most of us know there is a philosophy behind the practice of yoga, and we may even know there are 8 aspects to this holistic practice. However, even with that knowledge, I find that many students (even long term practitioners) might still not quite know or relate well to all the ins and outs. For me, the knowledge of even the most basic terminology and concepts within the 8-limbs of yoga went a long way in keeping me interested and coming back for more! Knowing that the all aspects of yoga listed in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali could be experienced within the poses made it a deeper and more rich practice for me.

“I tend to pay attention to essence in everything, and these classes have shed new light on what is happening when we do yoga. The classes are simple enough that words and well shaped concepts linger throughout my days and increase that sense of “home” in the poses that our teachers describe.”

The “WHY” of yoga is just as important as the “WHAT” and the “HOW”, and though the way Iyengar Yoga is naturally taught brings about the actual experience of many of the limbs of yoga practice, to look at asanas through the specific lens of each limb can be profound and eye-opening.

“It provides a nice grounding for students still in their early practice routines, as well as a good ground review for those of us who have been doing this for a while and haven’t always picked up on the ‘why’ of some of what we do.”

The class is set up as a “Level I” basic asana class so that the learning process of the physical poses does not interfere with the topic of the week. Whether you are brand new and searching for something new to learn OR you have been practicing for a long time and never heard terms such as Pratyahara or Dhyana, this class could be for YOU !!!

Sign up now! It is best of course that all 8 classes are taken in series, but you are welcome to join in when you can as well. You must be signed up for the class in order to receive the recordings.
