Introduction to Iyengar Yoga – Starting Sept 9th !

Chris-janusirsasana

The Yoga Place is now offering brand new students the opportunity to take a beginning class from the comfort of their own home, taught by Chris Saudek who has been teaching Iyengar Yoga for almost 40 years.

In her own words:

“I love sharing my passion for Yoga with new students.  I especially enjoy the energy of students who are learning a new way to move, learning to think about how they are moving and who are even starting to think about how their mind and breath can work to their advantage in and out of yoga class.”

Yoga is beneficial to everyone on a physical level.  Ultimately, it is about transformation of how you think, how you use your physical and mental energy, what is important in your life and in the world.  It is about relationships between you and your body, between parts of the body to other parts of the body, between you and others, you and your environment, and you and whatever your idea is about spirituality or divinity.

While working through basic poses, the new beginner will get a good idea of the depth of the subject.  If you have done yoga previously but not done it with an Iyengar teacher, you will find how much the details and sequencing can make a difference in your experience and how the props help you achieve a better sense of alignment.  The 75 minute class will move along at a good pace until about 10-15 minutes before the end when there will be a guided relaxation that will relax and rejuvenate you.

The class is taught live as an 8-week series on ZOOM, and recordings will be available for those registered to watch later as well.  We have been offering classes online for months now and are adept at demonstrating  and at seeing and adjusting students through this medium. We have found the ZOOM classes surprisingly popular and satisfactory to student and teacher.

PLEASE NOTE:  The basic props needed for the class are three firm blankets, a yoga strap, and a yoga block (wooden or cork preferred).  If you are in need of these props, please contact pam@yogalacrosse.com.  A chair without arms would also be useful.  This class is an active class and may not be appropriate for those with physical limitations or injury. If you do have any limitations, please look at the schedule for the “Ageless Classes” that we have to offer!

Jennie Williford CIYT

Jennie Williford (CIYT Level 3) is a transplant to LaCrosse via Montana, Illinois, and originally Texas. Throughout her life moves and 5 trips to India, Jennie has acquired a well-rounded and multi-faceted approach to Iyengar Yoga since her start in 1998. Jennie loves the experimental and explorative nature of yoga in accessing deeper knowledge of the Self on every level. The practice of yoga can be intense and introspective, however as practitioners we can be light-hearted and open-minded in our discipline. Jennie is intrigued by the philosophy of yoga and hopes to share this depth of subject while teaching the physical and mental benefits that come from the practice of posture.
